I’m rolling the dice On a fried bologna on white From a gas station in middle-of-nowhere Mississippi And I can’t quite Shake the feeling that I’m not going to make it out alive I get the feeling that I’m gonna die This road is going to chew me up and spit me out So chew me up and spit me out Rolling into Jackson And I’m headed for the Big Sleep There’s a clawing in my chest I’m looking for some relief I still can’t quite Shake the feeling that I’m not going to make it home this time I get the feeling that I’m gonna die

about

Fried Bologna might be the world's happiest-sounding song about a heart attack. The song tells the story of a tour that Cory and Keith went on back in 2015. It started off innocently enough with a stop at a gas station at some forgotten interstate exit in Mississippi. As the band was pressed for time to make the next show, they decided to grab food at the gas station and eat in the car while they drove. While the other band members went with safer options, Keith opted for a fried bologna sandwich that was sitting and shining resiliently underneath the heat lamps. Keith unwrapped the foil cover and pulled out a sandwich that failed to reach even his low expectations. It was technically a fried bologna sandwich but only barely so. A slice of fried bologna between two sweaty slices of white bread. No sauce. No cheese. Dry as the Serengeti desert. Now, I'm not saying this sandwich caused the heart attack that followed but it certainly couldn't have helped.

It started with some neck soreness and a headache. Not ideal for being packed in a car with gear and a gang of musicians, but it was manageable. Keith pushed on and played the next show. After the show, the band crashed at a friend's place for the night. In the middle of the night, Keith woke up to shooting pains in his arm and pressure on his chest. Things he knows NOW that are all signs of a heart attack. However, the band had a couple of more shows to play on that trip and Keith is as stubborn as he is stupid. So the band marched on to Jackson, MS to play a venue called Big Sleepy's. The band rocked the house with a very tired, sweaty, and low-energy Keith on bass. The next day, the band returned home from the road triumphant. Keith went to the hospital. One surgery, a bunch of pills, and a guitar pedal later, we wrote this song as a tribute to that trip and the fried bologna sandwich that started it all.
